What is a desire? A desire is a thought you have not abandoned. Just like two pieces of wood, you can use them like flint stones, to produce friction in them and fire. The same fire will then consume the wood itself. Similarly, the transcendental desire of Self-realization will consume all the desires you have. Does that mean you will remain thoughtless? No. You will have thoughts. But your mind won’t always be racing and you will have complete control over your thoughts.
If you control your thoughts, you control your desires, expectations, urges, emotions, responses and reactions. They all originate from thought. So that’s where it ends because desire is always to attain something, of having something, of getting to some destination. But with Self-realization, when you get to that state, you start to see the journey not the destination. Then you are firmly situated in that bhava. Nothing else. No more. It’s a very gratifying, deeply internal feeling to know one day who you really are. That insight will set you free, you will feel like never before. Now you are not feeling happy because somebody is doing something good for you or saying something good to you. You are happy because you just are.
